Fused Glass Drop Vases from Shimmering Glass come in an amazing variety of styles, sizes, colors and patterns. Drop Vases are really quite unique and very special at Shimmering Glass. We love to push the envelope, trying new techniques to create big and beautiful drop vases as much as we enjoy working with tiny 3 to 4 inch tall drop vases with delicate stems.
Floral designs with shapes like a flower, fused glass drop vases with special display stands; both copper and wrought iron. Large 10 inch tall drop vases with dramatic, eye catching designs and patterns. And a special collection of Drop Vases with custom made Ceramic Stands by Eileen Worman.
Unique, whimsical, dramatic and absolutely beautiful. We hope you enjoy our Fused Glass Drop Vases as much as we enjoyed creating them.
Fused Glass Drop Vases are created by taking the desired piece of glass you want to use for the vase, placing it on one of a variety of different molds that have shapes, textures, dimension and always have a hole in the center.
Heating the glass to about 1325 degrees, the glass begins to stretch through the hole, depending on the height you have elevated the mold the glass can
take an hour or longer to stretch long enough to reach the floor of the kiln. Sometimes you may choose to stop before it reaches bottom - other times you might even let it keep going after it has hit bottom - then things get very interesting. The glass continues to stretch, folding on itself and forming a sort of 'base' for the glass vase you are creating. Careful if you let it go too long the glass will become too thin - not long enough and it won't be stable. This can be fun, scary and intimidating all at the same time! In the end, it all works out, you have created a beautiful work of Fused Glass Art.
